This online magazine Késsinnimek - Roots - Racines is making its debut this month with articles on genealogy: French-Canadian, Native American, History, Background, Churches and Parish Registers, Colonists, Missionairies and Shrines. The writers are all related through our ancestors and our love of genealogy: Fr. Owen Taggart, Suzanne Sommerville, Dolorès Robillard Benoit, James Carten, Louise-Andrée Éthier, Jean Quintal, Juliana L'Heureux and myself.
The title Késsinnimek - Roots - Racines was chosen to indicate that we are dedicated to finding our ancestral roots. The French word "racines" has the same meaning as the English word "roots". However, the Abenaki/Algonquin word "késsinnimek" means "family", and not "roots" in the genealogical sense.
We hope that you will find the articles in this issue and in subsequent issues interesting, but more importantly, helpful in your genealogy research - helping you to find and get to know your ancestors and the historical background of their lives.
Bon voyage in the world of genealogy research. (Ed. Norm Léveillée)
