Nicolas MATTE, from St-Saire (near Neuville-Ferrières) in Normandy, was baptized at Ste-Geneviève-en-Bray, on 8 December 1636. At the time of the 1666 Census, he was living at la Pointe-aux-Trembles (today Neuveille) in the Province of Québec, Canada, where he was granted land in 1702 by Jean Bourdon, Lord of Dombourg. He was one of the founders of Neuville.
