THIRTEENTH GENERATION


   Martin PRÉVOST dit PROVOST was originally from Paris, France. He was born before 4 January 1611 in Paris, France. He appeared at Québec in 1639. He was a valet then a receiver in the store at Québec. On   3 Nov 1644, he married a Huron, Marie Olivier dit Sylvestre, a daughter of Roch MANITOUABEOUICH, a ward of Olivier LETARDIF. He died at Beauport on 27 January 1681. Olivier LETARDIF served and an interpreter for Samuel de Champlin with the Native Americans. (1)(3)

The English translation:

Marriage of Martin Prévost and Marie Olivier Sylvestre

The year 1644, the 3rd day of the month of November.
The (marriage) bans having been published on 3 successive feast days
of which the first was on the 23rd day of Octobre,
the second on the 28th day, and the 3rd on the 30th day
of the same month of Octobre and having found no legitimate impediment
the Rev. P. Barthelemy Vimont, Superior of the Mission of the
Society of Jesus in the this country of New France and
serving as pastor in this Church of the Conception
of the Virgin Mary in Quebec, has questioned Martin
Prevost, son of Pierre Prévost and of the decesed Charlotte Vien
His wife from the parish of Montreuil on the Bois de Vincennes
and Marie Olivier, daughter of Roch Manithabehick
Native and having received their mutual consent and
in their own words and being present, has solemnly married them
and gave them the nuptial blessing in the Church
of the Conception at Québec, in the presence of the known witnesses:
Olivier LeTardif and Guillaume Couillard
of this parish. (6)

On 8 November 1665, upon the death of Marie Olivier, Martin married Marie d'Abancourt, widow of Geoffroy GUILLOT and of Jean JOLLIET in Québec. Marie was the mother of the famous discoverer Louis JOLLIET. (7)

   Marie Olivier OUCHISTAUICHKOUE is listed both as an Algonquin and a Huron. She was also known as Marie Olivier Manitouabeouich and was the daughter of Roch Manitouabeuich. She was adopted by Olivier Letardif and instructed by Guillaume Hubou and the Ursulines. She died at Québec on 10 September 1665 and was buried in the cemetery of the Côte de La Montagne, Québec.(2)(4)

    Children were:

iii. Louis PRÉVOST was born before 1651 in Québec somewhere. He married Françoise GAGNON on 21 February 1672 in Château-Richer. He then married Marguerite CARREAU, who was born on 16 December1661 and baptized on 24 June 1662 in Québec, on 17 February 1681 in Château-Rricher. Marugerite then married Mathiew TESSIER/ERINGUE on 25 November 1687 in Beauport. Marguerite died on 15 October 1737 in Beauport. Louis died on 12 May 1686 in Beauport. (5)(8)(9)
