4538. Guillaume HÉBERT was born circa 1604 in Paris, Seine, France. He was the last child of the family. He was less than ten years old when he arrived in Québec in 1617. He married Hélène DESPORTES on 1 October 1634 in Québec. He lived with his wife in a small house in the center of the Upper Town. He served as a witness at the signing of the marriage contract of his niece Marguerite COUILLARD with Jean NICOLLET on 22 October 1637 and also at that of his wife's cousine Marguerite MARTIN with Étienne RACINE on 16 November 1737. He died very young on 23 September 1639 in Québec. He was survived by a three year old son and two younger daughters. (1)(4)(6)

4539. Hélène DESPORTES was born on 7 July 1620 in Notre-Dame des Recources, Québec, the first French child to survive in the colony. Her godmother was Hélène BOULLÉ, the wife of Samuel de Champlain. She followed her parents back to France in 1629, only to return as early as 1632 with her parents. She was only fourteen years old at the time of her marriage to Guillaume HÉBERT in 1634. She was among the beneficiaries in Champlain's will of 1635. Her uncle Guillaume COUILLARD undertook the guardianship of her three children. As a young widow, she then married Noël MORIN, a wheelwright, on 9 January 1640 in Québec. Hélène & Noël had six sons and six daughters, all born in Québec. The oldest of the boys Germain MORIN was the first native-born priest, ordained on 19 September 1665 by Mgr. de Laval. One of her daughters, Marie MORIN was the first novice of the Hospitalers in Montréal. Hélène died on 24 June 1675 in Québec. (3)(7)

      Children of the first marriage were:

i. Joseph HÉBERTwas born on 3 November 1636 in Québec. He married Marie Charlotte DEPOIIES BUISSON on 12 October 1660 in Québec. Joseph was the last male descendent of LOUIS HÉBERT with the HÉBERT surname. He was captured, tortured and murdered by the Iroquois Indians in 1662. (2)

child833 ii. Françoise HEBERT born and baptized on 23 December 1638 in the Paroisse de Notre-Dame de Québec. She married Guillaume FOURNIER on 20 November 1651 in Notre-Dame de Québec. Guillaume died on 24 and was buried on 25 October 1699 in the Paroisse de St-Thomas de Montmagny, Québec. Françoise died and was buried on 16 March 1716 in St-Thomas de Montmagny. (2) (8)
