ANTOINE BRUNEAU, Born 25 Jan 1769 at Maskinonge Qc. Died 1 Oct 1846, place unknown, probably Québec.
He married [1] Angèle DESSERT. They had 14 children, only 2 survived; Louis and Charles.
He married [2] Julie GIRARD. They had 2 children, one survived; Joseph.
He married [3] a CREE WOMAN in the Canadian West. (1)

1st generation

Josephte BRUNEAU married Hyacinthe LAVAVIERE, s/o Louis DESRIVIERES, before 1824. She was the d/o Antoine BRUNEAU and Cree.

2nd generation Antoine BRUNEAU and a Cree were married according to the custom of the country{ibid}. He was born at Québec. He was employed by the North West Company in 1804 at English River District{Charles Denny Papers, Glenbow Archives, Calgary, Alberta} French Canadian. Occupation NWC-1811-1818, HBC 1819-1922, Voyageur. He was at English Rriver in 1804 for NWC. He had a brother named Pierre Bruneau of Chambly, Lower Canada. Antoine Bruneau returned to Montreal in 1814 with his son Francois. Francois later returned West in 1821. Did Antoine? Antoine is not included with children of Guillaume Pierre Bruneau in Tanquay. Either is Francois. All Lines that are ancestor to Antoine Bruneau {Guillaume Pierre Bruneau, etc are probably and not confirmed, D. Couchane} (2)

Note 1. François Bruneau, the son of Antoine was a first cousin of Julie Bruneau the wife of Joseph Papineau, and a nephew of Pierre Bruneau member for Chambly Lower Canada. His father was an employee of the North West Company. Antoine returned to Québec in 1814. {See article; The Metis and Canadien Councillors of Assiniboia by Lionel Dorge in the Beaver Magazine, Summer 1974}.
Note 2. On June 27, 1865, at the age of fifty five, François died of Typhoid fever that was sweeping the colony at that time. His wife, Marguerite, died only a few hours after François, also from Typhoid. The historian Hargrave says, " François Bruneau was one of the most highly regarded victims of the epidemic of 1865. He was a prominent councillor chosen to represent his race, amongst whom his influence was strong." A common monument marks the graves of François BRUNEAU and Marguerite [Harrison] BRUNEAU and Jean Baptiste LAGIMODIERE and his wife Marie Anne GABOURY in the St. Boniface Cemetary.

[3] THOMAS S. BRUNEAU, b, 16 Mar 1834; s/o François BRUNEAU and MARGUERITE HARRISON. He married ADELAIDE LANDRY, 25 Jan 1857 St. Boniface, d/o Joseph LANDRY and Genevieve LALONDE, b. 15 Aug 1839, St. Boniface, MB. d. 25 Feb 1925. Thomas and Adelaide had 18 children, 5 died very young. (5)

[4] NAPOLEON J. BRUNEAU, s/o Thomas BRUNEAU and Adelaide LANDRY was born May 1, 1858. He married MARIE CARRIERE, Nov 8 1881. Marie CARRIERE, was b. 25 Mar 1864 in St. Boniface, MB; She d. 30 Oct 1920 in Spaulding, Sk. She was the d/o Moise CARRIERE and Josephte BEAUGRAND dit CHAMPAGNE.

[5]LUCIE BRUNEAU, b. 18 Nov 1896, RRS; d. 1949 in Sk; m. ALEXANDRE ANTONIN MENARD in 1917. He was the s/o Moise MENARD and Azilda FILLION.

[5] Lucie BRUNEAU {1896-1949} was the d/o Marie CARRIERE and Napoleon BRUNEAU of Spalding Sask. and was a twin sister to Helen BRUNEAU {Mrs. Wilfred De Bois}. Lucie married Alexandre Antonin MENARD {1887-1964} in 1917. They moved to Nipawin Sask. in 1924. Lucie died in 1949 in Sask. Alex MENARD was b. 22 Feb 1887 in St. Boniface MB; He died 1964 in Victoria BC. They had three children;
i] Oscar MENARD, b. 1922, m. [1]Margaret VICKERS in 1940. He married [2] Margaret CONN.
ii] ELDON [6] DONEAU MENARD, b. 1935, m. Caroline Roberta SCHELL.
iii] Lorraine MENARD, b. 1926, m. Edward JACKSON.
They adopted two daughters in 1934:

v] Isabel LEE.

[6] Eldon Doneau MENARD,s/o Alexandre A. MENARD and Lucie BRUNEAU. He was b. 1925 in Nipawin SK. d. 6 March 1968 in Vancouver BC. He married Caroline Roberta SCHELL. She is the d/o Charles SCHELL and Alice Emmeline LINKLATER. She was b. 12 Jan 1927 in Whitebeach, Sk.
