I know we must be cousins many times over, but Pierre Boivin is my direct Boivin ancestor. I see we share him. I descend from their child François m 19 April 1706 Québec to Jeanne-Angélique Jobin. Research done in France has extended Pierre's ancestry.
Pierre's parents, Pierre Boivin and Anne Lecoq, chose Pierre Dorléans and Marguerite du Hamel as godparents for their son on 26 July 1643, the Feast of Sainte-Anne. Eighteen years later, Pierre would leave France and eventually settle in a village called Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré. In fact, he would be involved in the building and maintenance of the Church of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré.
Michel Langlois's book, referenced below, revealed that a researcher in Rouen has recently extended the parentage of Pierre Boivin back to his great-grandparents. (*Records from Anne Osselin of Rouen, France, cited by Michel Langlois, in his _Dictionnaire Biographique des Ancêtres Québécois_ (1608-1700), Tome 2, Lettres D à I, ), Sillery: La Maison des Ancêtres, 1999, corrections for his Tome 1, Lettres A à C, p. 493-94.)
Here are the extensions and some additions:
1 0 Pierre BOIVIN, Baptized 26 Jul 1643, Saint-Sauveur de Rouen, France. Registers of Saint- Sauveur. Godmother: Marguerite Duhamel; Godfather: Pierre Dorléans. Died 7 Jan 1709 at Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré at age 65; Inherited from his uncle, François Boivin. See DBCI and my copy of Pierre's marriage contract.
Married Étiennette FAFARD, born 15 May 1652,Trois-Rivières, daughter of Bertrand Fafard and Marie Sédilot, on 4 Nov 1664 at Trois-Rivières (Contrat Ameau 1 Jul 1664). Étiennette buried at Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré 7 Apr 1721.
2 -1 Pierre BOIVIN, Baptized 18 Jul 1597, Saint-Maclou de Rouen. Died ??? at age ?? (*Record from Anne Osselin of Rouen, France)
3 Anne LECOCQ, Baptized 8 Feb 1603 Saint-Maclou de Rouen. Married 1633, banns 11 June 1633, for ?? years. (*Records from Anne Osselin of Rouen, France). Died ??? at age ?? 4 -2 Guillaume BOIVIN (This Guillaume is also father to Charles, Guillaume, and François Boivin, uncles to Pierre, who also came to New France. Charles was the architect for Sainte-Marie-aux-Hurons, about 1640-50, now reconstructed at Midland, Ontario, and he and his brother Guillame were "donnés" there, lay brothers who offered their services to the Jesuits. I have visited the site. It is a marvelous place.)
5 Guillemette LEVERT
6 Christophe LECOCQ, Born 1563-1583?
7 Jeanne LEBORGNE
8 -3 Jehan BOIVIN, Born 1524-1544? at Anet, France
9 Michelle VASTIER, marriage before 1564 at Saint-Maclou de Rouen (*Record from Anne Osselin of Rouen, France)
I can only wonder whether any further records will be found in France, but the Boivin family was definitely in Rouen in the middle of the sixteenth century.
Pierre had the following siblings in France baptized at
Saint-Maclou:
Marie, baptized 29 August 1634, godparents: Marie Maubogne & Guillaume Boivin
Anne, baptized 26 September 1635, godparents: Élisabeth Boyvin & Christophe Boyvin [as recorded]
Anne, baptized 2 March 1640, godparents: Anne Ausou & François Boivin
Archange Godbouts Origine des Familles Canadiennes-Françaises, from which the above baptismal records are extracted, lists a number of other Boivin and Lecoq entries in the registers at Saint-Maclou. There is a false reference to a Mercredy Boivin on someone's web site and in the LDS records. Whoever read Godbout misunderstood the name of the day of the week, on which one of the Annes was baptized, for a girl's name. (Mercredy = Wednesday)
I really get quite upset at the misunderstandings of the French language that I see on many sites. Unfortunately, I can't take the time to try to correct all of them. I hope one day I'll have my own site.
